Configuring the Markem-Imaje 2200 Series Labeler
The Markem-Imaje 2200 series labellers operate using the COLOS software, which provides multiple configuration options to ensure precise and efficient labelling. This setup is crucial, especially when dealing with double application labelling, where labels are applied to both the side and the end of the cases. Below, we’ll cover key setup steps and troubleshooting solutions.
Adjusting Label Timing in COLOS
One of the critical settings in COLOS is Timing. You can adjust:
- Label applicator timing
- Duration settings
- Double application synchronisation
Proper timing ensures that labels are applied correctly, preventing misalignment and production slowdowns.
Common Issue: Labeller Not Appearing on the Network
Recently, we encountered an issue where the COLOS system showed that the labeller wasn’t connected to the network. However, despite this, the labels were still being sent and applied correctly.
Root Cause: Incorrect IP Address Configuration
After investigation, we found that the IP address configuration inside COLOS was incorrect. This issue stemmed from an improper setup by the Markem Engineer during commissioning.
How to Fix the IP Configuration in COLOS
- Access the COLOS configuration settings.
- Check the IP address assigned to the label printer.
- Ensure that the labeller and COLOS are on the same network.
- If needed, update the IP settings and restart the system.
Accessing COLOS
There are two main ways to access COLOS:
1. Access via PC
- If the COLOS software is installed on a dedicated PC, you can access the settings directly.
- Navigate to the COLOS administrator panel to view and modify connected devices.
2. Connect to the Labeller via IP Address
- Ensure your device is on the same network as the labeller.
- Enter the IP address assigned to the Markem-Imaje 2200 in a web browser or COLOS.
- If prompted for a password, note that there isn’t one by default.
Finding the IP Address of the Printer
If you are unsure of the printer’s IP address, follow these steps:
- Turn off the machine.
- Turn it back on while holding the print button.
- Wait until all three lights illuminate.
- A printer settings report will be printed, displaying the IP address.
If you encounter a “print out” error, you can retrieve the IP address via:
- COLOS Designer → Open the label file → File → Download → Printer → Connection → IP Address displayed.
- COLOS Administrator → Devices listed on the left-hand panel.
Switching the Printer to Direct Transfer Mode
To change the Markem 2200 label printer to direct transfer mode:
- Enter the printer’s IP address in the COLOS software.
- Ensure you are on the same network as the printer.
- If prompted for a password, leave it blank.
Conclusion
Setting up the Markem-Imaje 2200 labeller correctly ensures smooth and error-free operations. By adjusting the timing settings, verifying network connectivity, and properly configuring the IP address, you can avoid unnecessary downtime and maintain an efficient labelling process.
